Kritika Ramani is a Quality Engineering Manager at Mathworks. She is co-leading a workshop at WITS Northeast — Pocket AI and IoT: Turn Your Phone Into a Smart Fitness Tracker.

Why is speaking at WITS important to you?

Being a woman in technology myself, I recognize the increasing need to address the gender disparity in STEM disciplines and careers and the fact that the profits from the WITS events go towards helping inspire girls to consider careers in STEM makes me very excited to be associated with this program.

Further, the summit itself is an amazing platform to connect and network with several incredible women in technology and I am excited to be showcasing the MathWorks tools for Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things, both of which are technology mega-trends.

What inspires you?

I am very inspired by success stories of technology helping improve the human life. These stories help validate my choice of career in technology and motivate me to continue to work hard.

Most useful article that you’ve read in the last month?

I recently read this article on WSJ titled Where Women Fall Behind at work, which shared some interesting insights on the disparity in management /leadership roles.

When you are a kid, what was your dream job?

As a kid, I was fascinated with the medical profession and wanted to be a doctor.

Tell us something about your session

Our workshop “Pocket AI and IOT: Turn Your Phone into a Smart Fitness tracker” will introduce participants to some of the concepts of sensors, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things, show them how easy it is to build a smart fitness tracker using their own mobile devices and will hopefully motivate them to leverage these concepts in their own projects.

What other sessions or speakers are you most excited to see?

I am looking forward to attending the keynote sessions as well as hearing more about several of the technology trends that are being presented at the summit.
