Carol Munn is a Technology Teacher at the Eisenhower School. Her session at WITS Southeast is Computational Thinking and Creativity with Robots.

Why is speaking at WITS important to you?

Speaking at WITS is very important to because I want to share my passion of robotics and infusing the fun, exciting, and innovation using these playful machines as a great creative method in the classroom. There are very few women in the STEM field, especially teaching robotics education to the younger children.

What inspires you?

What inspires me are the emotions and reaction of students involved in using robotics in helping solve problems, it is that “AH-HA” moment that is precious and very inspirational to me.

Most useful article you’ve read in the last month

The most useful article I read in the last month was “Integrating Computational Thinking Across the k-8 Curriculum” by Irene Lee, Fred Martin and Katie Apone.

When you were a kid what was your dream job?

Interestingly I found my “Life to Birth book I made in fifth grade and in Chapter VIII, it read “I plan to be a teacher and would teach small children their ABC’s, how to write, months of the year and tie their shoe laces”. I am a teacher now. I teach 5th and 6th graders. The course I teach is technology. Next in the book “If I can’t be a teacher I would like to be a lady that finds information about the planets and the moon. My third choice is to be a chemist” This was written in when I was in fifth grade — way back when 1968.

Tell us something about your session -

“Robotics & CT combined, embraces a unique partnership which uncovers a unity with strong practical hands-on approaches to learning in the classroom.”
