Why is speaking at WITS important to you?
WITS is a great event and it supports an even better mission, TechGirlz, which is all about educating and inspiring girls in technology. I’m a “tech girl” and have been since I received my very first computer in the 3rd grade. So speaking and volunteering at WITS events connects me to that very important mission of inspiring more girls and women in tech like me. Also, as representing AWS as a sponsor, I get to share the our commitment to diversity, the work that we are doing and many of the great opportunities we have at the company. In my opinion it’s an amazing place to work.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by people like my sons, nieces, nephews and so many of the men and women I encounter. I still believe there can be good in humanity even though we don’t see it play out that way as much as it should. I’m encouraged daily to think about what contribution I can make and then do something. How can I use my influence and privilege at whatever level to make things better for those that will come after me? It is my payback given the opportunities I’ve been afforded because of the giants of whose shoulders I stand.

To be a Computer Engineer

It’s not time for us to be afraid of a future with automation, machines and intelligence. We need to embrace it and be ready. With all the advancement in tech, humans are still needed and we will be for the foreseeable future.
