60 Seconds with WITS Virtual Summit Speaker — Subhasree Chatterjee
Subhasree Chatterjee is a Senior Data Analyst at LexisNexis. Her session at the WITS Virtual Summit is How to drive data driven change in a legacy organization.
Why is speaking at WITS important to you?
Women are underrepresented in STEM even today. A conference specifically for women gives us the opportunity to learn, celebrate, and uplift each other. Also, oftentimes the challenges faced by different companies at a macro level are quite similar. Sharing the challenges you faced during a project, and the lessons you learnt might help many other with their daily work challenges.
What or who inspires you?
The great work done by activists all over the world to change things for better inspire me. I am definitely appreciating their work and resilience more during current world situation.
Most useful article you’ve read in the last month
For a current project I am working on I was reading up on users’ tendency to perceive attractive products as more usable: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.318.7694&rep=rep1&type=pdf
Favorite thing you have learned or did during quarantine
Yoga. I didn’t have patience for yoga before, but during quarantine I have learnt to appreciate the calmness yoga brings. Now I am a big advocate for a 10–15mins morning practice.
When you were a kid what was your dream job?
I wanted to become a teacher. I used to conduct classes with newspapers as students! I used to teach them, take exams, and evaluate their papers :D
Tell us something about your session
My session is going to talk about the importance of data driven decision making. It is going to highlight the challenges we faced being a legacy organization, and how UX and Data Science collaborated to give data the center stage for all product decisions.
What other sessions or speakers are you most excited to see?
Given the rapid expansion of AI, I am very intrigued to attend “Diversity & Ethics in AR/VR Technologies” by Angela Williams.
Also “Building your Brand by Creating your Signature Talk” by Bobbie Carlton seems very interesting for an aspiring presenter like me.
