Meet the Speaker — Gurvinder Mahajan
Gurvinder Mahajan is a Senior Solutions Architect at Amazon. She is leading a workshop at WITS 2023 Virtual Summit - Introducing AWS.
· Why is speaking at WITS important to you?
Have you wondered why woman represent only 25% of computing roles even though they are 47% of the employed adults in the US? I have spent multiple meeting pondering over this, being the sole woman in a packed room. As I raise my daughters to be the strong leaders of tomorrow, I realize our collective responsibility to be those role models for them, to show the art of the possible by doing. WITS is that forum where we can be inspired, network and dream big together.
· What or who inspires you?
I feel inspired by the daily doses of courage around me, whether it is the first graduate in a family or a lady pilot (aviatrix), there is no limit other than what we place in our own thinking.
· Most useful article you’ve read in the last month
Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning has been an area that piqued my interest. So when AWS announce Generative AI, I have been all ears. I have been following articles like https://www.allthingsdistributed.com/2023/04/an-introduction-to-generative-ai-with-swami-sivasubramanian.html to learn more about it’s use cases.
· When you were a kid what was your dream job?
When I was in school, my father bought us our first computer. I remember being fascinated by it. I would wait for my turn to use it all day. My oldest brother was an electronic engineer and I would watch him very curiously as he opened up the equipment and put things back together. I would tell my mother that I would become an engineer just like him. I ended up pursuing a degree in computer science later in life.
· Tell us something about your session
My session is an introduction to the AWS for anyone who has little to no experience with the cloud but curious to learn. It will introduce you to the AWS Cloud, basic cloud services and give you some hands-on experience with it. I will also share how you can continue to learn if you are interested in pursuing it further.
· What other sessions or speakers are you most excited to see?
I am looking forward to listening in to Jasmine Lawrence’s “Growing with Intention” and Nanditha Murthy’s “Capitalize on Uncertainty” . These topics can apply to anyone and I hope to pickup some tips for the future.
