Meet the Speaker — Lakshmi (Lucky) Balasubramanian

Lakshmi (Lucky) Balasubramanian is a Senior Project Manager — Technical at Red Hat. She is moderating a panel with other women from Red Hat at WITS Southeast on the role of Experience Versus Education in Career Path.

Why is speaking at WITS important to you?

In my 20s, my sister asked me to go to Toastmasters. I managed to attend the Toastmasters club in England and India. In fact, I took one of my former company’s President to listen to my ‘Anger management’ speech at Toastmasters once — which I believe helped me move to the US for Work reasons.

What or who inspires you?

My Husband Siva, My Family (Parents, InLaws, and Kids), and My thirst to learn new things and apply it purposefully

When you were a kid what was your dream job?

Lawyer

Tell us something about your session —

The Career path is a journey. We often are asked ‘Do you have the experience to do the job when interviewing but honestly, the question should be ‘Do you have the necessary education and experience’ to do well on this job’. A question I keep pondering when I take up something new and I feel strongly that the next generation should know about it.
