Lily Kuntz is an Android Engineer at Comcast NBCUniversal. She is co-leading a hands-on workshop at WITS Northeast on Jetpack Compose(Android) with a simple Tic Tac Toe app.

  • Why is speaking at WITS important to you?

Speaking at WITS is important to me because I am passionate about supporting and celebrating women in tech. I am eager to not only share my experiences and learnings, but also to get the opportunity to learn from other women in the industry and hear their stories.

  • What or who inspires you?

My family is my biggest inspiration. Their constant support and motivation drive me to be my best self. As the youngest of three siblings, I have always had the best role models in my two older sisters, showing me what it looks like to work hard and be passionate.

  • Most useful book/article you’ve read in the last month

This month I read the book Building Mobile Apps at Scale by Gergely Orosz. This book detailed the many challenges of building mobile apps with examples of different ways that companies have gone about these challenges. One of my key takeaways from this book is the importance of eliminating silos. Orosz’ wrote a blog post about an example of a best practice mentioned in the book to combat the issues of the lack of visibility on others building or having built the same thing as your team and the tech and architecture debt accumulated due to different teams building things differently: https://blog.pragmaticengineer.com/scaling-engineering-teams-via-writing-things-down-rfcs/

  • When you were a kid what was your dream job?

Interior designer or architect

  • Tell us something about your session

Jetpack Compose is a modern toolkit for building native Android UI. I will be co-presenting with Sweety Bertilla to lead a hands-on workshop on how to build your first app in Android using Jetpack Compose. You will leave the session having built your very own Tic Tac Toe game!

  • What other sessions or speakers are you most excited to see?

I am looking forward to learning from all the amazing women in tech speakers lined up for the WITS Northeast 2023 schedule. I am most excited for:

  • Theresa Maida’s Getting Promoted Through Agile Methodologies
  • Gloria Bell’s Want to Increase the Number of Women in Tech? It’s Time to Start Bragging
  • Lori Skyes’ CTL — ALT — DELETE: Stratieges for Women in Tech to overcome the Impostor Phenomenon

Hear from Lily and the other amazing women in tech speaking at WITS Northeast in Philadelphia on April 27th and 28th. Learn more and register at https://womenintechsummit.net/wits-northeast-2023/
