Lynette Correa-Velez is the Director of Tech Launchpad at Kennedy-King College. Her session at WITS Midwest is Work/Life Integration Strategies from Moms in Tech.

Why is speaking at WITS important to you?
Being selected as a speaker for the 2023 WITS is important to me because it provides me the opportunity to represent my Latina/x community within the tech ecosphere in a meaningful manner.

What or who inspires you?
My 6 y.o. son and my husband inspire me daily. I want to be the best version of myself everyday for them. They are my “heart” and “soul” in human form.

Most useful article you’ve read in the last month:
One of the most useful articles I read recently was from a blog from the “Latinas in Tech - Chicago” chapter which is a professional association for any Latina/x-identified professional either in tech or who wants to work in the tech field ( i.e. https://latinasintech.org/chapter/chicago). It was titled, “Negotiation Strategies to Close the Gender Pay Gap”. It was highlighted on #EqualPayDay2023 that Latinas in the U.S. across any industry with any education attainment make 0.53 on a $1.00 to their white male counterparts. This shocking and needs to be discussed. Read their article further here: https://latinasintech.org/blog/negotiation-strategies-to-close-the-gender-pay-gap

When you were a kid what was your dream job?
When I was a little girl living in the inner-city of my hometown of Boston, MA, my dream job was to be a pediatrician. Currently, I am working on my doctorate in D.E.I. in Education with a focus on Human Resource Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with 20 years of career coaching experience especially in tech. I suppose once I complete my doctoral studies in the near future, I will be fulfilling my childhood prophecy in a different manner with continuing to co-cure the career ailments of all who I career coach as “Dr. C.V.”!

Tell us something about your session
Our session will be informing participants of the various ways one can attain “Work/Life Integration Strategies from Moms in Tech”. All panelists will be a Mom in tech with intersectional identifies from across the U.S. This will be a hybrid session.

What other sessions or speakers are you most excited to see?
I am extremely excited to attend the session on “The Future is NOW” with the President/CEO of the AnitaB.org, Brenda Darden Wilkerson. She’s amazing!

Register here to hear from Lynette and the other amazing women in tech speaking at WITS Midwest.
